I'm not sure when it started, but I have eased off the hamburgers and the sitting and started walking the dog. There are no words to describe me at 6:30am with my Rambo red ski gloves on and my dog hauling me down the street, but I am just thankful that no-one else is out (that I can see) at that hour. It is the magic hour, just after dawn, when the cats slip over their fences and back into the shadows, when a gal over forty doesn't need a lot of make-up and lighting effects to walk down the street.
I walked the seven blocks up, one over and seven back for a while. Then, my dog decided she wanted more out of her limited social time. She pulled me into a jog! We made it a full block the first day and then, as we both caught our breath, we added a block and another and now, proudly, a month later we are at a full seven up, walk the one over and jog on back like we've done it all our lives! (hers being shorter than mine means I'm not bad for my age!)
It has been a defining time for me. Taking the moment to enjoy what I have done, small as the accomplishment may be. I have not leapt forward into a goal: a marathon, tight pants, or daylight jogging. I am keeping it a block at a time as that keeps me here and now. Happy with what I have and have achieved...today. There is no other place in my life that I do this...yet...but I am hoping it will rub off like every lipstick I have dutifully tried to endure.
